Medical Verses

Frost grows heavy in the shadow of the chimney

While the rest of the roof blazes in the sun.

Medical Building

If you linger in the halls long enough

waiting for the elevator near the art deco mail chute

you can smell the ancient cigarette odor

in the pores of this medical building

Light Treatment

I step into a cocoon of light

I stand in an upright tube of lights

orange goggles to protect my eyes

They up the time 20 seconds each visit

so as not to nuke me to kingdom come

In the buzzing lights and whirring heat

smelling of baked flesh

I imagine I am in a time machine

and when I step out

I am in a world void of disease

But in the end I always return

to my own time

because I miss my wife and children
