When I wrote this headbutt of a novel, there was music running through my veins. My Grandpa JE Jones, the spirit of Bust It's protagonist Cotton Kingfisher, was a poor man's Hank Williams singer/songwriter who would play your ear off if you'd let him and handed his tapes to Waylon and Willie at fairs and other venues. It also helped that I am married to a beautiful girl who grew up playing bluegrass music, so all I had to do was leave my office to hear her guitar and fiddle and southpaw siren singin. It was natural then that music was a constant theme in the book. I heard music in my head as I wrote and listened to as much old country and western and blues as I could get my hands on.
After I finished Bust It Like A Mule I asked my wife Jenny Anne, my songwriting brother Kevin Morgan and my brother Jacob Mannan (I just call him 'Kid') to write me a few songs based on the novel and what it spoke to them. They came back at me with some amazing oldschool original gems that JE and Cotton would be proud of, and I am proud to share.
I will be posting them all here on the website in time (as well as some old timey C&W hits), and you can enjoy the few that are here right now, like this Jimmie Rodgers inspired yodeling instant classic by Kev. Sit back and imagine Cotton Kingfisher hopping the rails all across the bygod American West while you listen to this.
